PD or PD is the distance measured between the outer edge of one pupil and the inner edge of the other pupil, normally taken in millimeters. Some opticians say this in single figures such as 60 millimeters while others break it into 2 sets of figures, for example, R31 and L29 - here it is the distance between each eye and the center of the nose.

The recent good weather inspired a good friend to advocate that we should go out for the day and do something out of the ordinary. She had seen a magazine piece about the Watercress Line heritage railway line which was taken over by volunteers in the 1970’s and has over the years become a huge tourist attraction in the south. It travels via four stations covering approximately ten miles of Hampshire countryside, and you can get a ticket which lets you get on and off as many times as you like during your visit.

What do you like to do when you’ve some holiday from work? Do you plan a fortnight away somewhere sunny, pack up your skis and go for the slopes or spend a few days in the house pottering about? Whatever the decision, we all benefit from a break from the old routine.
For a lot of people in the UK, the most appealing suggestion for a holiday away from home is a place where it’s sunny most of the time. With British weather frequently being unpredictable, any country where sunshine is almost certainly guaranteed is always going to be a favourite option with the sun addicts amongst us. Others we are introduced to by friends. Some we find ourselves after hearing about them or noticing them on TV and others might grow out of jobs we’ve had in the past. There are a few that we will abandon as we grow older and others that we can only fully enjoy as adults.

For a lot of people the thought of having any sort of surgery done on them is a quite unpleasant and scary prospect. Printed media and television regularly recount stories about basic procedures which went horribly wrong and almost everyone apparently knows someone who has had a less than satisfactory episode in hospital. The likelihood of getting infected with MRSA is often described in much detail as well, and consequently many people are discouraged from the suggestion of having a simple operation done. In fact, medical horror stories are so regularly trotted out that some people suffer from severe stress and anxiety even before a straightforward visit to a GP.
